A Bond between Nations

The Timor-Leste people earned a special place in our history when they walked alongside Australians in World War II. Now it is our turn to walk alongside the Timor-Leste people as they rebuild their country and gain the recognition and support they have earned as an independent nation; the first new country of the 21st century.

Australia has a special role to play as a close neighbour and a wealthy first world country which believes firmly in the importance of fostering and supporting independent democratic nations and the development of stronger economies and improved living standards for people.
